This travel photo book invites readers on a multifaceted journey of discovery through Europe and North Africa — with a camera in hand and an eye for stories along the way. From the beaches of the Costa Blanca to the vineyards of Bordeaux to the alleys of Chefchaouen, a kaleidoscope of cultural impressions, personal encounters, culinary delights, and minor mishaps unfolds.
The volume takes us through the Atlantic region of France, on to the vibrant capital Madrid, before the colourful life of the medinas unfolds in northern Morocco between Tangier, Tétouan and the Rif Mountains. In the south of France, Marseille, Avignon, Arles and Nîmes stand for history bathed in sunlight, while Milan exudes urban esprit as the gateway to Lombardy. A special highlight is Paris, where his own photographs were also on display at UNESCO headquarters as part of the Nah/Fern exhibition.
This is followed by impressions from Rome and Tivoli, from rural, authentic Apulia, from Málaga – with a stay in the historic Parador high above the city – and from Graz, the winter capital of Styria. Budapest is also included: familiar, charming, full of memories. Along the Tuscan coast, the journey continues to Lucca, Viareggio, Livorno, and Pietrasanta—places between espresso, coastal light, and artists’ studios.
Further chapters lead to green Asturias, the rugged island of Corsica, and baroque Dresden. The book concludes with a visit to Bendorf, Rhineland-Palatinate – with a detour to the castle of the Princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein and a butterfly house that is as surprising as it is impressive.
With over 500 photographs and a wealth of anecdotes, this illustrated book takes its readers on a journey that is not planned, but experienced – open, curious, up close.

This illustrated book combines return and rediscovery – with reunions in old favorite cities and new perspectives on the familiar. It begins with a revival in Paris, France – in the city of love, between boulangeries, bouquinistes, and boulevards. Then it’s off to Corfu in Greece – back to the green island, where a visit to Sissi’s summer residence is just as much a part of the experience as sunsets over the Ionian Sea. In Verona, Italy, a sensationally well-preserved amphitheater, nestled in medieval flair and the myth of Romeo and Juliet, leaves a lasting impression.
Another revival follows in Malta – the fortress island in the Mediterranean with its quiet corners and monumental walls. In Baden-Baden, Germany, wine, history, and gambling come together – a short trip with a fine backdrop. Mallorca in Spain, on the other hand, is adventurous and rugged: in the Serra de Tramuntana, a hiking trip almost turns into an accident report.
In Turin, Italy, the elegant heritage of the House of Savoy unfolds – complemented by powerful chapters from the world of automotive history. Newcastle in Great Britain surprises with student energy, unexpected nightlife, and its own interpretation of “Sex and the City.” In the Vulkaneifel in Germany, on the other hand, things are quieter – with hiking tours around Lake Laach and volcanic heritage underfoot.
Crete in Greece offers Mediterranean relaxation in Elounda Bay, while a trip through Bologna, Modena, and Ravenna in Emilia-Romagna in Italy shows how culinary delights and history complement each other perfectly. The tour concludes with a stylish stroll along the Côte d’Azur – with stops in Nice, Éze, and Cap Ferrat, where splendor, palm trees, and pastel facades accompany the Mediterranean Sea.
